Cairns to Airlie beach

Since we last wrote we have travelled from cairns to airlie beach and enjoying every bit! Here are some highlights so far:

Cairns – here we went on a tour into Atherton Tableands (the rainforest). The trip was led by Captain Matty – a guy with long dreadlocks and who was barefoot all day! He was such a character and made the trip.
He took us to 1 lake and 3 stunning water falls which we swam in (although it was freezing cold!).
He was very persuasive at making us jump in!
We also spent a day snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef aboard the silver swift. We snorkelled at 3 different sites on the outer reef and it was INCREDIBLE! There were thousands of tropical fish of all different colours and sizes. We also saw a turtle (we literally snorkelled right over him!), a sting ray and Nemo fish hiding in the anemone. We also saw this guy (below) reallllly close up!
Next we stayed in mission beach – and at this hostel the owner was looking after a really cute orphaned baby wallaby!!! Called sunny 🙂 dee loved him! A lady who lived nearby had dedicated her whole life to saving these wallabies and we were lucky enough to visit her house and see all the baby joeys hung up in their make shift pouches! She was a pretty crazy lady and an emergency phone call came in about an injured wallaby which she went to sort out – it was taking 3 people to restrain the grown up wallaby..!
Here and magnetic islands were very chilled places with beautiful beaches so we had chance to relax.
We are currently spending our last day at airlie beach after a fab day yesterday ocean rafting around the Whitsunday islands. One of the most famous islands is white haven beach – it had pure white swirling sands and crystal clear turquoise water, bliss!
Photos of us paddle boarding to follow soon!
Our first over night bus tonight! We have Tim tams (Aussie penguin bars!) to get us through!
Lots of love
